Trek Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor

Did you miss out on securing a place on the 2020 Wakhan expedition team? Well with the applications flooding the Secret Compass office even after this year’s Wakhan Corridor expedition reached maximum numbers, we launched an additional team for August 2020.

So, what can you expect from what’s proved to be our most popular team expedition of recent years? Trekking between the Big Pamir and Little Pamir ranges in the Wakhan Corridor, the team will cross remote high passes and icy river crossings in Afghanistan’s newest National Park. Expect long arduous days, steep rocky trails and mind blowing landscapes in one of the most culturally rewarding places on Earth.

Discover Socotra, The Jewel of the Arabian Sea

Isolated for years due to its extreme location and civil war, this is a unique opportunity to go where so few have visited, the island of Socotra. This 120km camel supported trek will see the team follow the Hajhir Massif from coast to coast through its dramatic gorges and rolling plateaus, experiencing its endemic flora and fauna and learning why this island is dubbed the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean.

Explore Virunga, Africa’s Oldest National Park

04 JUL 2020 – 18 JUL 2020

This is your chance to navigate the dense jungles of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, home to the critically endangered mountain gorillas, and learn of the fight for peace and stability on the frontline of conservation.  You’ll hike to the smoking lava lake of Mount Nyiragongo to sleep on its crater rim before exploring the gorillas’ natural habitat. Then to the soaring peaks of the Rwenzori mountains in Uganda with their glaciated summits, dubbed the Mountains of the Moon.

Experience the Mongolian Steppe on Horseback

Exploring the foothills of the Altai mountains in Far-Western Mongolia, this team will adopt the traditional way of life on this wilderness journey. This is the perfect opportunity to develop riding skills as you cover varied and challenging terrain in the company of experienced Kazakh Eagle Hunters before celebrating at the Sagsai Eagle Festival to see first hand over 6,000 years of Kazakh culture and eagle hunting skills.
