Lut desert joins UNESCO list

On 17 July 2016 eight new sites of global importance were inscribed to UNESCO’s World Heritage List including the Lut desert (the Dasht-e-Lut) in the Islamic Republic of Iran, location of the upcoming Secret Compass Iran ‘Desert Stars and Solitude‘ expedition.

Secret Compass’s 2016 Iran expedition team will include up to 12 amateur explorers, who’ll set out to cross a desert that has only ever been traversed on foot once before – by the Secret Compass team in 2015.

Communications director, Kerry O’Neill, said, “With its ex-military background, Secret Compass is known for organising unique expeditions in remote or extreme environments. Ambitious adventure travellers come to us when they’ve ticked everywhere else off their list for they know we provide unusual and physically challenging expeditions that they just can’t find anywhere else.

“The Lut desert expedition team is always extremely popular as this expedition is so unique. We welcome applications from anyone with a fit and healthy lifestyle who is keen to join this tough desert trek through an environment recognised by UNESCO as being of global importance.”
