Lockdowns. Cancelled flights. Travel bans. Adventure travel has definitely been different in 2020. But, while our usually jam-packed expedition calendar has been uncharacteristically sparse, we’ve certainly not been slouching.
Around this time every year we like to do a round-up of some of our most memorable highlights of the previous year, looking at the pioneering adventures we’ve been a part of and sharing some of the most incredible shots from our teams around the globe. We don’t often get the chance to talk about the work we do supporting TV and Film shoots around the world, so here’s a look at some of the filming projects we’ve been involved with this year.
Ed Stafford: First Man Out
In the wilds of China, survivalist and explorer Ed Stafford faces the planet’s top survival experts as they race to escape some of the country’s most hostile environments.
For First Man Out, Secret Compass provided full spectrum High Risk advice and consultancy as well as location management and medical support in China.
Panorama, Return from ISIS: A Family’s Story
Filmed over the last four years, this BBC documentary follows the extraordinary story of this family’s journey from a small town in the US to the heart of the Islamic State group and back.
Again providing Full spectrum High Risk advice and consultancy, we also provided location management and medical support in Syria and Iraq.
The French Open
In 2020, The Tennis Channel was the home for the French Open with the most live hours and days of coverage for the two week tournament in Paris. With the challenge of pulling together both live coverage and studio commentary and analytics, we provided The Tennis Channel with COVID Risk Management for the duration of their coverage of the event.
Sue Perkins: US – Mexico Border
Sue Perkins brings her unique blend of humour and compassion to this extraordinary journey along one of the most contentious borders in the world.
Secret Compass provided Full spectrum High Risk advice and consultancy, location management, medical support in Mexico
This TV fantasy mini-series and an adaptation of the Worzel Gummidge books by Barbara Euphan Todd. Written and directed by Mackenzie Crook, who also stars in the series as the scarecrow. For the Production team at Leopard Films, we provided COVID Risk Management for the duration of the production.
While you’ll often find us behind the scenes of TV and film productions, managing location, safety and risk, this year we stepped in to also provide COVID consultancy, safety and risk management for the media. More on which you can find here.
